Ukraine and the war

Ukraine and Russia share a 1,200-mile border. It is now more than a year since Russia first invaded Ukraine, on 24 February 2022. This happened because Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, believes that Ukraine belongs to Russia. Russia had already taken the Crimea region of Ukraine in 2014. There are now more than eight million Ukrainian refugees (people who have left their country because of war or the threat of violence) across Europe – around 20% of the population. It’s also estimated that around six million people still in Ukraine have had to leave their homes.…
