The 1970s celebrated 25 years of marriage, and the same amount of time on the throne

The 1970s saw the Queen and the Duke celebrate their silver wedding anniversary in 1972, having enjoyed 25 years of marriage. A service was held at Westminster Abbey as part of the celebration and then the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne attended lunch at the Guildhall hosted by the Lord Mayor and the Corporation of London. During her speech at the Guildhall, the Queen said: ‘I think everybody will concede that on this of all days, I should begin my speech with the words: ‘My husband and I.’ A party was held at Buckingham Palace in the evening, hosted by Charles and Anne.
