Coronations throughout the years have always centred around celebrating a new era of the monarchy

The most notable coronation of our modern time was that of Elizabeth II, which took place on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey, meaning many of us were lucky enough to witness the spectacle and remember it to this day. Elizabeth’s coronation was held more than a year after she was proclaimed Queen upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952. Not only did this length of time respect the passing of a monarch before celebrating the new one, it also allowed adequate time for the planning committees to make preparations.
