A cinematographer as well as a VFX wizard, Rob Legato was instrumental in incorporating real-world filmmaking techniques into the virtual reality environment The Lion King was created in. The aim was to replicate the naturalism and encourage the “happy accidents” that are an intrinsic part of traditional filmmaking.

The Lion King – The Official Movie Special: This film has been produced using revolutionary virtual reality techniques; what was the thinking behind bringing more traditional filmmakers like Director of Photography Caleb Deschanel and Production Designer James Chinlund into that VR space?
