The two-game CHL USA Prospects Challenge features top talents for the 2025 NHL draft – and it arrives at the same time the NCAA mulls allowing major-junior players

CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUE president Dan MacKenzie wants to make it clear that the idea for the CHL USA Prospects Challenge was conceived long before the NCAA announced it is considering a proposal that would allow CHL players to be eligible to play U.S. college hockey. But with the seismic changes to the landscape that are afoot, the two-game series – Nov. 26 in London and Nov. 27 in Oshawa – does provide another level of intrigue. There was a time, of course, when the CHL was on one side of the philosophical divide, with the NCAA, USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and the USHL occupying the other.
