You don’t often call a 19-year-old a ‘veteran,’ but it’s an apt description as Maxim Strbak enters his fourth WJC tourney

THN’S ODDS FOR GOLD | 20-1 THE FIRST TIME MAXIM Strbak played at the world juniors was a bit anticlimactic. At just 16, his tournament opened against a U.S. squad featuring future Michigan State teammate Red Savage and soon-to-be NHL stars Matty Beniers and Jake Sanderson. After just a few days of competition, however, the event was cancelled due to a COVID outbreak. Since then, Strbak has played in three real world juniors (the 2022 edition was replayed in the summer in Edmonton) for Slovakia and is looking at his fourth in Ottawa.
