FROM 1961-62 TO 1966-67, Topps included cards of NHL coaches in its hockey sets. The company retired that practice in 1967-68 but reprised it once for 1974-75. That year, Topps – as well as Canadian counterpart O-Pee-Chee – made cards of all 18 NHL coaches, including future legends Scotty Bowman and Don Cherry. Bowman, who won his first Stanley Cup in 1973, won eight more Cups as a coach and holds the record for most regular-season coaching wins. He previously appeared in a few team sets issued by the Blues and Canadiens, but this was his first mainstream card. Cherry, meanwhile, became one of hockey’s most famous personalities for his boisterous opinions on “Coach’s Corner” on Hockey Night In Canada for almost four decades.
