MOOSE JAW CLAIMED ITS FIRST WHL TITLE IN 57 YEARS, CAPPING ITS RUN WITH A ‘HARD-FOUGHT’ SWEEP IN THE FINAL

THE CITY OF MOOSE Jaw, Sask., is the home base for the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the beloved air squadron whose members “work as a team to bring thrilling performances to the Canadian public.” Two years after adopting a new logo that includes an homage to those local heroes, the Moose Jaw Warriors matched those qualities on the way to hoisting the franchise’s first-ever Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions. Team captain Denton Mateychuk was named playoff MVP as the Warriors completed their run to the championship with a four-game sweep of the Portland Winterhawks in the final. “If you had told me before the final started that we were going to do it in four, I’d be shocked,” said Warriors coach Mark O’Leary. “It was a hard-fought series.” The sweep came on the…
