IT WAS ANOTHER CANADA-U.S. CLASSIC IN THE GOLD-MEDAL GAME AT THE WOMEN’S WORLDS, WITH THE CANADIANS WINNING IN OT TO REIGN SUPREME FOR THE 13TH TIME

CANADA IS BACK ON top of the world in the women’s game, and it raised the bar – yet again – to get there. The Canadians defeated the United States in a frenetic 6-5 overtime thriller to take gold at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Utica, N.Y. After the Americans were penalized for too many players on the ice in overtime, Canada capitalized. Danielle Serdachny scored with two seconds remaining in the 4-on-3 advantage with a no-look, backhand shot past goalie Aerin Frankel. The victory gave Canada its 13th gold medal at the world championship and third in the past four years. “It was pretty much back-and-forth goals.” Serdachny said. “Pretty wild.
