WITH THE ARRIVAL OF the PWHL, women now have a proper pro league in which they can continue their careers after finishing college. But as positive as this has been, there are still challenges. When west-coaster Jennifer Gardiner touched down in Montreal for the first time ever this fall, she quickly discovered that she wouldn’t just be moving on from dorm life and brushing up on her French. “Had to get a new winter coat for Christmas,” she said, laughing. “That was the top item on my list, for sure. I had to get winter tires. It was definitely a change of atmosphere outside.” The 23-year-old left winger hails from Cloverdale, in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey, B.C.
