OWNERSHIP FRANCESCO AQUILINI OWNING AN NHL team and its downtown arena – combined with being an unabashed and hands-on fan of the franchise since its inception – can add up to a prickly perception and team-performance problems. It’s often led to an I-know-what’s-best bravado from Francesco Aquilini, the oft-impatient and media-avoidant Canucks chairman and the managing director of the parent Aquilini Investment Group. To his credit, the Vancouver native has spent to the salary cap in a relentless quest to bring a Stanley Cup to the success-starved city. The pursuit also meant his coaching hires, the cantankerous John Tortorella and lovable Bruce Boudreau, briefly helmed the bench before being run out of town.
