OWNERSHIP TOM GAGLARDI CANADIAN HOTEL AND restaurant magnate Tom Gaglardi has been the owner of the Dallas Stars through his holding company, Northland Properties, since 2011. In later transactions, Northland also purchased the AHL’s Texas Stars and the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. The Vancouver-based Gaglardi came into his fortune after his father, Bob Gaglardi, founded the Sandman hotel chain and the Moxie’s restaurant chain. The Gaglardi family also owns the rights to the Denny’s franchise name in Canada. Gaglardi has continued to use Dallas as a growth base for all of his business lines. Northland Living, a new spin-off, recently purchased land in downtown Austin to develop a condo building and 40 acres in suburban Austin for mixed-use development.
