BY ALLAN KREDA PREDICTION | 4TH IN METRO THE ISLANDERS MADE THE playoffs with a late surge under new coach Patrick Roy before falling to Carolina in the first round for the second straight year, this time in five games. Roy replaced Lane Lambert in late January after Lambert coached the team for less than two seasons following the departure of Barry Trotz. Roy went 20-12-5 as the Islanders rallied to a third-place finish in the Metropolitan Division. Their up-tempo style and more aggressive tactics were a welcome tonic following the deliberate and risk-averse strategy under Lambert, who was 19-15-11 when he was dismissed.
