Last summer returning star Russell Brand met up with four Big Issue vendors, Anthony, aka Drummer, Steve, Mary and Peter to chat revolution, relationships and recovery. It was a unique and revealing get-together in a church in Waterloo. “When I was in that room and they’re talking about their own feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness and despair, the first thing it did was end the illusion that I experience those things in solitude,” Russell told us when we caught up with him again recently. “When talking about addiction there’s a great deal for me to learn, particularly when it comes to dealing with extreme poverty and extreme suffering.
