Book-mad vendor gets a place at Cambridge

Former Big Issue vendor Geoff Edwards, who used to sleep rough on the streets of Cambridge, made national headlines in November when he earned a dream place at the city’s world-famous university. The 52-year-old secured his spot studying English Literature at Hughes Hall, the oldest college for mature undergraduates in the city, after he aced his Access to Higher Education course at Cambridge Regional College. “It is the first thing I am proud of in my life,” Geoff said. “I was homeless for a long time after that and I was isolated and getting anxious.
