One day after his death on October 6, 2019, the Irish Times printed thirtyone “lightning elegies” for Ciaran Carson from poets, writers, and friends, including Colm Tóibín, John Banville, Michael Longley, and Gerald Dawe (Doyle). Paul Muldoon published a review of Carson’s just-published Still Life in the paper two weeks later, writing, “These poems now see him [Carson] writing to devastating effect of the devastation wrought on Belfast.” At the same time, he noted, “Still Life will be remembered as one of the great testimonies to married love.”
