It had rained all night long, the sound of the wind whipping through my dreams. The mud must have been forced through the screen while I lay sleeping but the window was closed. Surely, I had lowered it in the early morning hours without noticing the rain-drenched floor, then forgotten all about it, the way one does when doing things in the night. This was the only possible explanation. One has to get on with it when mysteries happen.
