On a visit to Hong Kong, Hublot brand ambassador chef Silvio Germann of Switzerland’s Mammertsberg restaurant, shares his journey into the culinary world, drawing parallels between the art of watchmaking and cooking

Tell us about your earliest influences in the culinary world, and how they shaped your approach to cooking and your profession. I grew up in Lucerne, Switzerland, and now operate my restaurant in Canton Thurgau, near St Gallen. As a child, I wasn’t focused on cooking; I was more about playing with friends. However, my parents frequently hosted guests, which instilled in me a desire to make people happy. This feeling remains and drives me every day in my restaurant—to ensure our guests leave satisfied. I explored different jobs, even considering gardening at one point. But when I worked in a restaurant, I realised my passion for making people happy through food and teamwork.
