Add a colorful combo of dippers, and you’ll make everyone thankful before the feast even begins. BUILDING THE OFRENDA The ofrenda is the centerpiece of the Day of the Dead celebration. This elaborate altar or offering is created to welcome and remember the souls of departed loved ones. The ofrenda commonly consists of three tiers, each with its own significance. TOP TIER: This tier identifies who is being invited to the altar and places them in their heavenly state. On this tier, you’ll typically see photographs of the person being honored. MIDDLE TIER: The second tier is used to encourage the dead to feel welcomed and comfortable. You’ll often find beloved trinkets and favorite foods on this level.
