BEACH BLOODSHED
David Miller, 24, met Hannah Witheridge, 23, at a resort on Thailand's Koh Tao island, where he was visiting.
On September 15, 2014, the pair were partying at a bar and left around 1am. Hours later, their bodies were found on the beach.
Hannah had been raped and both bodies showed signs of bludgeoning. David had also been drowned.
Concerned the high-profile crime would deter tourists, a police spokesperson immediately claimed the attacker must be a foreign national as, “Thais wouldn’t do this.”
Eventually, police arrested two 21-year-old Myanmar nationals, Wai Phyo and Zaw Lin.
Authorities alleged both men’s DNA matched samples from Hannah’s body, the suspected murder weapon, and cigarette butts found near the bodies.
