That’s rich…unarmed police officers in rural areas will be “sitting ducks” says a Police Federation spokesman if terrorists mount an attack in the countryside (see page 10 ). Point taken. But I hope you don’t mind me asking – what about the rest of us? The thought of a religious maniac running amok in a crowded farmers’ auction mart or scone filled Women’s Institute tent with an AK 47 and explosive body belt makes the blood run cold. Yet the bottom line is that any bobby – something of a rare sight in the leafy shires these days – won’t be the only one to cop it.
