Mary Bremner chats to renowned equestrian artist and fieldsports lover Tania Still

Tania grew up in Yorkshire hunting, shooting and fishing. She loved art at school so went off to university in Newcastle to study it. “Art was my only mantra in life, it was what I always wanted to do,” she says. Unhappy in Newcastle, Tania left to head to London to study at the City and Guilds. “I loved the course and my teachers, but one of my tutors was very anti hunting, because of a childhood experience, so he asked me not to paint anything to do with it. I wanted to learn and he was such a good tutor, so I did as I was told.” That didn’t stop her though, when she finished college she set herself up in a communal studio in Fulham and started painting…
