I’m dumbfounded at the number of people I meet whose canine companion is a rescue dog, imported from eastern European countries such as Romania and Bulgaria.
An astonishing 93,424 dogs were imported to the UK in 2015; more than a third came from Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Poland or Ireland. Figures suggest that at least 7,000 were rescue dogs with the majority of the remainder coming from puppy farms.
