Irish government bans pigeon shooting The Irish government has banned pigeon shooting in the Republic until 1 September. The move, which came into effect at the end of May and was announced by Josepha Madigan, the minister for culture, has caused uproar in the country’s farming and sporting communities. The National Association of Regional Game Councils said that the move had removed farmers’ “most effective form of crop protection from woodpigeon damage”.
