It was fun while it lasted, says Nick Ridley of the season so far and, like the rest of us, he hopes to be up and running again by Christmas, admiring Ted’s prowess and monitoring Percy’s progress

Me and my big mouth. A little over four weeks ago I was excitedly reporting on our first walked-up day and the start of the beating season. Now, as I sit here with the autumn sunshine streaming through my office window, we are in the midst of another countrywide lockdown. Shooting, beating and picking-up have all been put on hold and everyone I know is keeping their fingers crossed that we will get some kind of season come the beginning of December. By the time you read this article we will hopefully be dusting off our guns and waterproofs and heading back out into the Great British countryside.
