Can I borrow a shotgun to shoot on beaters’ day? Tony says: You can, but be aware of the changes to the Policing and Crime Act 2017, Section 130, which came into effect from May 2017. Written permission now forms part of the criteria for lending a shotgun on a shoot to a non-licence holder. The lender must be named in the written permission from the landowner or person who has the legal right to allow others to enter the premises for the shooting of game and vermin. Verbal agreement is not valid. The lender must be named on the consent letter, over 18 and hold a valid shotgun certificate. The lender should be in the presence of the borrower.
