What do you think of the latest general licences and how do you think they will affect woodpigeon numbers? Peter says: As far as I am aware any new general licences are broadly the same as the old ones; that is to say, you can control woodpigeon all year round as part of pest control measures to protect a farmer’s crop. Whether you will have to prove that the birds are actually doing damage at the time you wish to shoot them, as we briefly had to do when the licence was withdrawn last year, I have no idea. The people who make these rules are largely detached from the very people they are supposed to represent, so have no idea of the difficulties farmers have in trying to keep pigeon…
