Charles Smith-Jones extols the virtues of a fairly recent gun on the market, the Zoli Z-Sport, which makes a great second-hand buy in one of its various configurations

Although the Zoli family has been active in the hamlet of Magno in Brescia, Italy, for centuries, it has only been since the end of World War II that the modern firm bearing the name of Antonio Zoli has emerged. Originally producing serviceable though unimaginative guns, the company gradually started to embrace a more technologically advanced ethos that incorporated high standards and a fine finish. The output of the factory, which still sits not far from Magno, has been impressive since then. In the 1950s it became well-known for its replicas of muzzle-loading guns to supply an enthusiastic and growing new market, and shortly afterwards Zoli started to make combination guns using industrial processes, both firsts for an Italian company.
