There is much confusion on the proposed transition from lead to steel shot. This was no more apparent than when I went to trade in my old 1983 Miroku Sporter. I was told they would not touch it as it didn’t have the fleur-de-lys stamp and one barrel was ¾ choke, which meant it would have to be bored out to less than ½ choke and then reproofed. I pointed out my gun was designed mainly for clay shooting, but was told the ban on lead shot would apply there as well. As a result I was told my gun was worthless. It had in fact been recently valued by a reputable auctioneer to be worth £400 to £600, but this did nothing to assuage the shop, so I walked…
