CHRISTIANITY TENDS TO RUIN EVERYTHING. I think I’ve earned the right to say that as someone who grew up in a charismatic prophetic church where the ability to speak in tongues was a litmus test of your faith, and now as an ordained minister in Unity, a Christian-adjacent New Thought spiritual movement. A running joke in some religious education circles is that Christianity was doing just fine as a fledgling and criminal movement before it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. Then came creeds, criteria, and corruption. It was all downhill after that. For all its faults, and there are too many to count, the early Christian church was masterful in appropriating and rewriting stories to create selfserving narratives.
