Warm Audio WA-44 Ribbon Microphone

The RCA 44 is the most iconic ribbon microphone of all time. Does Warm Audio’s recreation do it justice?

The rise of Warm Audio has been one of the most striking industry success stories of the last decade. From humble beginnings back in 2011, they’ve become a dominant force by maintaining a laser-sharp focus on their core business strategy. Warm Audio’s mission is to make classic recording hardware available to everyone — and as the business has grown, their vintage recreations have become increasingly ambitious. I was particularly impressed by their reproduction of the AKG D19, which I reviewed last month. As far as I’m aware, the WA-19 is the first ever attempt to faithfully replicate a vintage moving-coil dynamic microphone, and as such, must have involved a huge amount of work.
