Skateboarding Drones

Drones are new to skateboarding, and they offer an entirely different aesthetic to the sport. “Mirador” was one of the first skate videos to properly make use of the drone. And as the second installment of the project, “Mirador 2,” comes out, I asked drone pilot David Lougedo about the pros and cons of using this new technology to capture skateboarding. “My favorite shots were the closeups of skater Marek Zaprazny where we were able to pull back after and show off the spot.” The drone is able to hover above the skater after the trick is done and show the spot and its surroundings. “It’s definitely hard to film with the drone,” says skater Kevin Baekkel. “Sometimes the drone hits you and crashes.” It is this problem that led…
