Finding decent boots and gloves should be easy: we all know what feels good. But riding bikes makes things trickier as we need a balance of protection and comfort – not to mention waterproofing and warmth as well, for winter riding.
Good winter gloves need to have enough insulation to save fingers from freezing but without becoming so thick they have no feel. The cuffs need to work with the jacket cuff to form an efficient draught-and-rainproof seal. A visor wipe can be a real plus. Boots need a decent, grippy sole that won’t slip on damp footpegs. Zips need a liner behind them so water thrown up from the road doesn’t get forced into the boot.
