You can ride in anything… but if something goes wrong then riding in trainers, track-suit bottoms and a T-shirt might not feel like a good idea. While motorcycle kit needs to provide a degree of crash protection, it also has to be comfortable, appropriate to the bike being ridden and, really, it should look good. While a good set of leathers still remains the last word in protection, textile kit is far more flexible for the year-round rider. Textiles are likely to be waterproof, with thermal liners for cold weather and vents for summer. Textiles are also more likely to have a range of adjusters to tailor the fit.
