This was a need to change the monotony of a 255-mile commute from County Durham to Maidenhead twice a month. But would I really use a bike? Would it end up just sitting in the garage? With these and other questions I could have dithered for months but last year, work prompted some uncharacteristic rash action: our half-year meeting was two months away… in Vilamoura in the Algarve region of Portugal. “I’m going by motorcycle,” I exclaimed, almost expecting applause.
