“We sleep in abandoned farms or under open skies” THE HUMBLE CRF250L may be a workhorse, but it’s not listening as we scale a steep ascent lined by dinosaur eggs. There’s a 1000ft cliff to my left, which keeps my eye on the throttle and the horizon. Don’t. Look. Down. We’ve fitted trail-friendly Michelin AC10 tyres, gone one tooth lower on the front sprocket, fitted hand guards, Renthal handlebars, double inner tubes to prevent punctures, and Kriega’s new OS-BASE luggage system. Other than that, we’re stock. The Michelins scrabble for grip as the single-cylinder Honda’s 24.4bhp tries to carry me onwards. A KTM 690 stops in my path, back wheel spinning as power wins the war against traction, while the goat-like CRF chugs on. There’s no time to help him right now or we’ll never get…
