“Bikes get dirty when used - that is their natural state” IT’S NOT THAT I hate washing bikes, it’s just that there are so many more pleasurable, exciting, rewarding ways I can spend the finite number of seconds I have left on this planet. Bikes get dirty when they get used; that is their natural state. Fighting it is as futile as drying a beach while the tide is coming in. It upsets me, of course. I don’t enjoy looking at a filth-streaked machine. And I do appreciate the sparkling, resplendent glow of a bike that’s been perfectly valeted. But it makes me quiver to think of the time, effort and money some folk put into obtaining a fleeting moment of aesthetic glory. Because (spoiler alert) it’s going to get dirty again.…
