Whether it’s a ride out to the local bike night, a week on the continent or the overland trip of a lifetime, riding your bike with others can be a ticking time bomb. Even the best of friends can end up riding off in opposite directions over things like speed, daily distances, riding styles or frequency of breaks. It doesn’t stop when you’re off the bike either: choosing hotels, setting budgets, what and where to eat can all be flash points. In our experience, the most fundamental split is between those who want to use whatever country they’re in as their personal riding playground, and riders who use their bike as a traveller’s tool, allowing for interaction with the locals and using it to get off the beaten track.
