“The tyres move about, but I’m feeling more confident” AFTER ALL THE brave talk, all the preparation and anticipation, this is the moment of truth. I can’t back out now without looking like an idiot. I have to ride over an Alp without the benefit of a nice tarmac road. As someone who doesn’t do off-road riding, I’m nervous – but also excited. The KTM 1290 Super Adventure is supposed to make light work of unpaved roads. Now I’ll find out if it can help a dirt-riding novice like me unlock some wild places. As the road winds upwards I’m distracted more by doubts than nerves. The sat nav is confident this is the right way, but I’m not. The road shrinks from two lanes to one and the verges creep closer…
