Riders rally round for German tourist

Hats off to UKGSer and ADVRider forum members and other bikers who had a whip-round to help an 18-year-old German rider whose Yamaha YBR125 was stolen in Edinburgh. Police found the bike, but it was too badly damaged to ride. But once word spread among the adventure community they not only raised enough money to get the bike fixed at Edinburgh dealers Saltire Motorcycles, they also provided rider Maike Albert with friendly accommodation for her unexpectedly prolonged stay in the Scottish capital. Maike, who has only had a licence for three months, rode to the UK as part of a gap-year tour, before starting an apprenticeship as a carpenter. Edinburgh has suffered a disproportionate number of bike thefts recently, and Saltire will store visitors’ bikes safely for a modest charge - not something…
