It won’t be published for another week after we’ve finished speaking, but Phil Cavell still can’t quite bring himself to look at the book he’s just finished writing, let alone field the long list of questions we’ve got for him. Many answers are prefaced with defensive disclaimers – “maybe I came across a bit too anti-this” or “perhaps I was a bit preachy about that” – the typical self-doubt of the first-time author.
