GALA NIGHT WITH A STAR MAKES THE SEASON BRIGHT

CHARLOTTE AND I ran through the jukebox menu quickly. As employees of the all-music radio station in Camden, New Jersey, about 15 minutes outside Philadelphia, we had a professional interest in the selections. In 1955, the jukebox in the Elgin Diner was filled with popular tunes, including Eddie Fisher singing “Heart,” “Dungaree Doll” and “I Wanna Go Where You Go, Do What You Do.” It also had Patti Page’s “Let Me Go, Lover!” and Sammy Davis Jr. singing “Something’s Gotta Give” and “That Old Black Magic.” We noticed that since our last visit, Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” and Lou Monte’s “Santo Natale” had joined the lineup, in honor of the season. Charlotte dropped in a few coins and selected Lola Dee’s “Paper Roses” and Dean Martin’s “Memories Are Made of This.” Our…
