Consumer technology has long been criticised for having an inbuilt male bias. Historically, men have filled the majority of roles in the tech industry, so it’s no surprise that many mainstream trackers and apps have failed to account for female biology. But the tide is turning due, in part, to the rise of ‘femtech’ – a term coined by Ida Tin, co-founder of menstrual health app Clue, to describe products, software and apps that address women’s health needs. This predominantly female-led global industry is forecast to be worth $103bn by 2030.
