Whenever you feel anxious or overwhelmed, clinical psychologist Dr Jessamy Hibberd recommends trying a ‘butterfly hug’. Cross your arms over your chest so that each middle finger tip is placed below the collarbone, with your hands and fingers as vertical as possible, so your fingers point towards the neck. Interlock your thumbs to form the butterfly’s body; your other fingers will make up the wings. Close, or partially close, your eyes. Then move your hands in turn, tapping your collarbone with your left hand, then your right hand, like the flapping wings of a butterfly. As you do this, breathe slowly and deeply, feeling your stomach rise and fall with each breath.
