Ceramics are the latest collectable art and Henry Holland’s new range is no exception. It’s inspired by Japanese nerikomi – a technique that uses coloured clays to create patterns within each piece instead of hand-painting. The meditative process involves slowly stacking, folding and rolling different brightly coloured clays into slabs, which are then cut and hand-moulded. During lockdown, when he was unable to attend classes at his local pottery studio, Holland began experimenting with clays at his kitchen table and came up with his own take on the method, resulting in unique designs with a painterly, watercolour-style finish, much like fabric.
