El DOOMSDAY CLOCK o reloj del día final, marca lo cerca que estamos de destruir el planeta con tecnologías peligrosas de nuestra propia creación. En estos días señala dos minutos para la medianoche, la hora fatídica para la humanidad

• Fue concebido por científicos para advertirnos del peligro de ciertas tecnologías. Hoy estamos más cerca que nunca del final. • El reloj se creó en 1947, con el objetivo inicial de advertir sobre el peligro de las armas nucleares, en particular de la posibilidad de que EEUU y la URSS se dirigieran hacia una carrera armamentística. • Los creadores fueron los editores del Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (‘boletín de científicos atómicos’), investigadores preocupados por el control de armas nucleares: Hyman Goldsmith, John Simpson y Eugene Rabinowitch. • En 1947, Goldsmith le pidió a la artista Martyl Langsdorf (esposa del físico Alexander Langsdorf, que trabajó en el Proyecto Manhattan), que presentara un diseño para la portada de la edición de junio.
