Jen Fox of Albuquerque, New Mexico joins us as a special guest designer in this issue to share a stylish and very useful tote. Although Jen used upholstery-weight fabric for her project, she’s provided instructions for stiffening quilter’s-weight cotton fabric, allowing you to showcase some favourites from your stash.

Finished size: 35.5cm x 38cm (14in x 15in) Materials • 50cm (⅝yd) exterior fabric (beige), see note • 70cm (¾yd) exterior pocket fabric (print) • 50cm (⅝yd) interior lining fabric • 60cm (¾yd) fabric for straps • 2.8m (3yd) woven fusible interfacing such as Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex • Threads to match fabrics • Four metal rectangle rings or O rings, 2.5cm x 4cm (1in x 1 ⅝in) • Rotary cutter, ruler and mat Note: Jen’s bag is made with upholstery-weight fabric, however quilting-weight fabric can be used if you prefer. Cut the fabric From the exterior fabric, cut: • two rectangles, 15in (width) x 16in (height) From the exterior pocket fabric, cut: • two rectangles, 15in (width) x 23in (height) From the interior lining fabric, cut: • two rectangles, 15in x 16in From the strap fabric, cut: • two strips, 5in x 26in (straps) • four strips, 5in x 17in…
