Christian Krohg (1852–1925), who had an artistic breakthrough on his first visit to Skagen in 1879. He spent several summers there painting, and his vivid colors and unusual compositions influenced the other painters. His painting Two Fishermen Talking on a Bench has great immediacy, and A Mother Plaiting Her Little Daughter's Hair shows off his dynamic color sense and ability to make an ordinary scene transcendent. He wrote an article about the village that concluded: “There is a rule that says you should never go back to a place where you have been happy. You will always be disappointed.
