THE SKAGENS MUSEUM

In 1908, artists P.S. Krøyer, Michael Ancher, and Laurits Tuxen, along with Degn Brøndum, Anna Ancher's father, founded the Skagens Museum. The building, completed in 1928, houses paintings by all the artists, as well as the dining room from the hotel — the heart of the colony at Skagen — which was moved into the museum in 1946. Over the years the room was decorated with a frieze featuring portraits of, and by, the artists. At Krøyer's suggestion, other pieces were painted in panels on the walls as well. The museum also features a wing with sketches, watercolors, pastels, and studies for larger paintings.
