Citizen Sleeper – the first game – has a very special place in my heart. Its themes mirrored the rhythm of my own life beat-for-heartbeat, as I moved out into the world for the first time: to go somewhere, alone, without any guarantee of safety or happiness, is a terror. The first game presented a harsh, but idealistic picture of what that experience is like – yes, the forces of the world are fierce and yes, becoming safe is an uphill struggle. Community is difficult to find, and some people don’t make it at all. But it is possible. What was, at first, a difficult resource management game soon became a storybook, as I discovered ways to keep my synthetic Sleeper body running. Soon enough, the place I was stranded…
